MIA, which is now into its third edition, is a project that has been able to grow and affirm its own identity thanks to collective commitment and to the support of the Ministry for Economic Development (MISE) and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE). Those players have been on the front lin since the inception of MIA, in order to put the excellent and innovative Italian audio-visual industry increasingly at the heart of the internationalization of the Italian industry.

MIA is a project aiming at pinpointing the major changes of the audio-visual market that is more and more prolific and complex and that goes beyond movie theatres. In fact, in this market, the synergy between all the segments of the audio-visual industry has become crucial. With this knowledge, Italian Trade Agency (ICE) has long been active in the promotion of the segments of the audio-visual industry – from cinema to documentary, from TV to video games – boosting co-production, the distribution abroad of Italian-made products, the Italian territory as film set and the Italian technical industries.

Rome’s International Market matches up perfectly with our strategic vision. It is the first of its kind in Italy and is a more concrete signal of the breakthrough made in the last few years in enhancing the Italian audio-visual industry.

This breakthrough has gradually enabled us to present abroad the Italian System and its increasingly well-defined governance which, thanks to the cooperation between the concerned public institutions and the business associations of the sector, has been able to draw up and implement a multi-annual action plan.

Since MIA first edition, through our network of foreign offices, we have been making a significant contribution to the selection of producers, buyers and distributors coming above all from those countries with which new partnerships are expected to be made in the audio-visual sector, namely: North America, China, Southeast Asia and Latin America. Moreover, we contributed this year to create an extensive international promotion campaign of MIA 2017, in order to increase and consolidate the interest of foreign players and maintain the excellent results in terms of participation levels obtained in the two past editions.
