Milos Forman has left us at age 86 after a brief period of recovery from an illness. The film writer won two Oscar’s awards for his movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1976 and Amadeus in 1985. The first film brought to light the remarkable young talent of Jack Nicholson, for his role as a psychiatric patient who pretended to be mad. Amadeus, on the other hand, is a biopic on Mozart. Among the most acclaimed works of the Czech movie director we can also find his musicals against Vietnam War: Hair, Ragtime, and Valmont. Forman was also one of the founders, together with other famous filmmakers, of the Nová Vlna, or the Czechoslovak New Wave.
Among the media which announced the sad news, the Czech press agency CTK wrote: “He died quietly, surrounded by his family and his closest friends”.
