We are just a few days away from the beginning of the new edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from May 14th to 25th, 2024. In a press conference, Festival President Iris Knobloch and General Delegate Thierry Frémaux revealed what this year’s program will entail.

From the presentation of the Palme d’Or to George Lucas to Greta Gerwig and Xavier Dolan serving as presidents of the juries for the Official Competition and Un Certain Regard, respectively, this year Italy will be represented by Paolo Sorrentino’s new film, “Parthenope,” in the Official Competition, and Roberto Minervini’s “The Damned” in the Un Certain Regard section.

It’s also worth mentioning “Megalopolis,” Francis Ford Coppola’s new film starring Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, and Shia LaBeouf. Its screenplay reportedly remained locked away for decades before resurfacing and making its way to the Croisette in Cannes.

Among others, we have David Cronenberg with “The Shrouds” and Yorgos Lanthimos with “Kind of Kindness,” fresh off the success of “Poor Things.” There’s also Ali Abbasi’s “The Apprentice,” Andrea Arnold’s “Bird,” Sean Baker’s “Anora,” and Christophe Honoré’s “Marcello Mio,” dedicated to Marcello Mastroianni in the year of his centenary.
