Christian Beetz is the founder and CEO of gebrueder beetz film production – a leading German production company for high-quality documentaries. The company has specialized in international co-productions from the very beginning and since October 2022 has been operating under the umbrella of LEONINE STUDIOS.
Christian Beetz is a multiple Oscar® and Emmy®-nominated producer/executive producer who has been very successful with numerous documentary films and series. Several of his productions premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and some also received awards. He also succeeded in producing the first German NETFLIX ORIGINAL for the documentary section. The high-end series A PERFECT CRIME was released in September 2020. It won the award for “Best Documentary Series 2020,” sponsored by the Berlin Series Festival, and received a Grimme Prize nomination, among others. The documentary VIRAL DREAMS is a four-time “Best Documentary Series 2021” winner at the IDA-Awards, Japan Prize, Buzzie Awards and Berlin. Beetz also won the Producer Award at the Hamburg Filmfest for the first GMPF-funded high-end documentary series, REEPERBAHN-SPECIAL UNIT FD65, in 2022. In co-production with Sky Studios, he produced JUAN CARLOS: DOWNFALL OF THE KING. The high-end series was presented at the Berlinale Series Market and premiered at the Canneseries Festival in 2023. It has already won “Best Documentary Series 2023” at the Berlin Series Festival and has had one of the biggest media coverages for a Sky production in Germany. Christian Beetz has implemented several German-Italian co-productions, including the art highlights TINTORETTO – THE MAN WHO KILLED THE PAINTING (2019), selected at the Festival International du Film sur l’Art (FIFA) and TITIAN. THE EMPIRE OF COLOR (2022). A recent co-production is a three-episode series with B&B Films, Rome: a portrait of THE YOUNG BERLUSCONI (2023). He is currently co-producing TROUBLE BEARS, a doc on Andrea Papi and the bears in Trentino, with the Bolzano-based production company Miramonte Film.
