The sports streaming service created by Walt Disney, Fox and Warner Bros Discovery WBD Venu Sport was announced in February to attract younger viewers, those who do not subscribe to traditional cable or satellite services, by offering them access to a significant portion of the sports available through traditional media.
“We are building Venu from the ground up for fans who want seamless access to the sports they love, and we will launch the product at an attractive price point that will appeal to ‘cord cutter’ and ‘cord never’ fans currently unserved by existing pay TV packages,” said Venu Sports CEO Pete Distad.
Venue plans to enhance the sports offerings of 14 different TV networks, as well as a library of documentaries and other programmes from the archives of ESPN, Fox Sports and others.
“With an impressive portfolio of sports programming, Venu will offer sports fans in the US a single destination to watch many of the most sought-after games and events,” Distad reiterated in a statement.
The service is expected to launch with an initial price of $42.99 per month to coincide with the start of the upcoming National Football League (NFL) season in the autumn. The companies will offer a seven-day free trial to those who sign up for the service.
The price is expected to be higher than what a consumer would pay for an independent regional sports network, which costs $20 to $30 per month, and lower than a larger digital programming package such as Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV, which cost about $75 to $80 per month.
