In the next five years we will witness a recovery and growth of cinema and TV in Italy, together with all the other entertainment and media sectors.

This is reported in the study “Entertainment & Media Outlook in Italy 2021-2025” by PwC, which analyses the growth prospects of the entire Italian sector between 2021 and 2025.

Cinema is one of the segments that has suffered most from the pandemic and the related lockdown, with a collapse in 2020 of 71.9% of total revenues compared to 2019. This trend, according to the study, is set to reverse this year with a growth of 44.7%, one of the highest of the sector, and a doubling of revenues in 2022. Thi upswing will then level off but remain steady, bringing the 2020-2025 CAGR to +28.2%.

The TV sector also suffered from the COVID-19 crisis, recording a 4.6% drop in revenues in 2020, but is expected to recover and overtake revenues as early as 2022, with a 2.3% increase on 2021 earnings. This tendency will be repeated in the next years, and will result in a 2020-2025 CAGR of +3.1%.

Together with these two branches, the entire Italian entertainment and media sector is expected to grow, reaching a total value of 39.6 billion in 2025. Of this, 9.6 billion will come from the TV sector and 677 million from the cinema sector.
