Interviewed by Tivù, Giancarlo Leone, President of APA, underlined how Italy should strengthen its cultural investments.

The starting point, continues Leone, would be the modification of the law on the Rai canon, from which 180 million between Government and Treasury are still retained. If they were reallocated, they would guarantee an increase in investments in the audiovisual sector.

Rai itself would have to make changes: instead of enhancing internal resources, it would have to adapt to the line taken by the main European broadcasters, who turn to independent producers, cutting costs and increasing efficiency.

With regard to On Demand platforms, Leone recognizes the undeniable advantage that characterizes them, that of being able to have distribution channels that overcome physical constraints, but hopes that they will identify new rules of engagement with producers and that there will soon be a return to cinema-going.

On the question about APA’s commitment in the documentary genre, Leone hopes that a clear annual budget will be assigned to the Documentary Management and that spaces dedicated to this kind of products will have a clear place in the Rai programming schedules.
