This year, MIA presents Animation Next: Italy, an export-oriented showcase designed to promote Italian productions and co-productions of animated series with strong potential for international circulation, distribution and partnerships. The initiative connects Italian producers with international broadcasters, streaming platforms, distributors, sales agents, licensees and other industry professionals attending MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo.
The selection comprises seven projects, including five Italian productions and two international co-productions involving Belgium, India, Portugal and Spain. The selected titles represent different stages of production, from advanced development to completed series, and combine established properties with original concepts. The Italian productions are Pet Pals Return by Gruppo Alcuni, a new magical adventure featuring the popular Pet Pals; Mindtoonness by Enanimation, an emotional journey about confronting fear and growing up; Mazukta & Shambabukli by Polydont Films, an imaginative comedy about two unconventional world-builders; GMO Travels by Studio Campedelli, a futuristic comedy set in Earth’s last remaining travel agency; and Mr. Rossi – Modern Times by Studio Bozzetto, which brings Bruno Bozzetto’s iconic character into today’s technology-driven world. Completing the selection are the international co-productions The Triplets by Peekaboo Animation (Spain), RainFrog (Italy) and Sardinha em Lata (Portugal), a contemporary reboot of Roser Capdevila’s classic property; and Melody & Momon, an Italian-Belgian-Indian co-production by Mobo and Dami For Content, with Xentrix and 20STM, a musical series exploring the everyday challenges of childhood.
Participants are presenting their projects at Animation Next to secure distribution and pre-sales, connect with broadcasters and streaming platforms, enter strategic international markets, develop licensing and merchandising opportunities, find co-production partners and attract investment for future episodes and seasons.
