The film co-production agreement signed at the end of June in Tokyo between the Italian and Japanese governments comes into force on 9 August.
The agreement, made up of 18 articles and an annex, establishes that co-productions approved under the agreement are assimilated to national works, identifying the benefits to which they may be entitled and the requirements for producers to obtain them (art. 4).
Furthermore, the agreement lays down the modalities for filming and the participation of artistic and technical staff. The percentage shares of the financial contributions of the co-producers are defined and the possibility of multilateral co-productions is arranged.
With a validity of 5 years and possible tacit renewal, the aim is to improve connections between Italian and Japanese film professionals. In fact, a joint commission, composed of officials and experts, is entrusted with the task of facilitating the implementation of the Agreement and assessing the existence of an overall balance between co-productions.
