In anticipation of the summer season and the upcoming major sporting events, Rai, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Sky are ready to compete in their respective offerings, particularly for the Olympics and Euro 2024. Two distinct factions emerge, with Rai on one side and Warner Bros. Discovery and Sky on the other, united and strengthened in their partnership.
“The offering made this year is a tremendous effort from both an economic and editorial perspective, elevating the company to a central point in sports storytelling,” emphasized Rai’s CEO Giampaolo Rossi during the presentation of the 2024 sports schedule, whose conference slogan was “All sports, everywhere, minute by minute.”
On the other hand, Warner Bros. Discovery and Sky are consolidating their partnership in preparation for the upcoming Olympics, bringing an important novelty to the table: ten dedicated Eurosport channels for Sky subscribers.
“In addition to the two Eurosport channels, Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, 8 new channels entirely dedicated to the event will be added, including one in 4K, where viewers can follow many other sports disciplines. In total, there will be over 1000 additional hours of live coverage available on Sky, with much of the content also available on demand,” reads a joint statement.
Andrea Duilio, CEO of Sky Italia, stated: “We are truly satisfied with this new agreement, which consolidates our partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery. And I am happy to announce to our subscribers that, thanks to Eurosport, they will be able to enjoy the achievements of Sinner and the world’s top players at Roland-Garros in 4K and follow one of the most anticipated sporting events on 10 channels: the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. All this in a sports season that never stops: in the long summer tinted blue on Sky, stand out UEFA Euro 2024 and Wimbledon, until September with the exclusive European football cups and more matches with Serie A top teams.”
Alessandro Araimo, Managing Director of Warner Bros. Discovery Southern Europe, Warner Bros. Discovery, commented: “This agreement is a strategic step to expand the coverage of a much-awaited event like the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and we are pleased that it is an opportunity to strengthen our partnership with Sky. The sports events of Eurosport represent a formidable asset in terms of coverage and quality for all our partners, and we are eager to broadcast a memorable edition of the Olympic Games, as well as all the other events that are part of our offering.”
