Digital Archiving of Cinema: Challenges, Risks, and Solutions for the Future

18 October, 2024 h 2:00 pm
In the shift to digital, it seemed like archiving would be as easy as buying a hard drive. But in reality…
This panel aims to provide a snapshot of the current state of film archiving, fifteen years after the digital transition. Whether we’re talking short-term or long-term storage, analog or physical media, the challenge of where to store and how to manage the enormous amount of data and metadata produced throughout a production’s lifecycle has become a complex puzzle that urgently needs solutions—and a clear vision.
Everyone is affected: producers, distributors, platforms, broadcasters, archives, post-production companies, and institutions. Sooner or later, each of these players, to some extent, interacts with a portion of this data and relies on it to shape their business models, capital, and missions.
