Italy celebrates at the 70th edition of the Berlinale (20 February – 1 March 2020) with two prizes, the Silver Bear for the Best Actor to Elio Germano for Volevo nascondermi (Hidden Away) and the Silver Bear for the Best Screenplay to the D’Innocenzo Brothers for Favolacce (Bad Tales).
International Jury members Jeremy Irons (President), Bérénice Bejo, Bettina Brokemper, Annemarie Jacir, Kenneth Lonergan, Luca Marinelli and Kleber Mendonça Filho have awarded Mohammad Rasoulof’s There Is No Evil with the Golden Bear.
The Silver Bear for Best Actor of the 70th Berlinale went to Elio Germano in Volevo nascondermi (Hidden Away) by Giorgio Diritti. The film is produced by Palomar, in collaboration with Rai Cinema and Aranciafilm.
Toni is expelled from Switzerland to Italy against his will. For years, he lives in poverty in the Po floodplains. But he never gives up his passion for drawing. The story of Antonio Ligabue, a revolutionary loner in modern art.
The Silver Bear for Best Screenplay went to the D’Innocenzo Brothers for “Favolacce” (Bad Tales) by the D’Innocenzo Brothers. The film is produced by Pepito Produzioni, Rai Cinema, Vision Distribution in association with QMI and in co-production with Amka Films Productions and RSI-Radiotelevisione Svizzera.
A few families living out on a limb in the suburbs of Rome. Tensions here can explode at any time; ultimately it’s the children who bring about the collapse. The D’Innocenzo brothers’ second Berlinale film is a wild, surprisingly mature work.
