Good news comes from the world of the film industry. Thanks to the Cinema Revolution campaign, the figures for June 2023 give a clear signal that cinemas are starting up again compared to the pre-pandemic period.

The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with production companies, aims to encourage audiences to attend the cinema during the summer months with a promotional price of just €3.50.

The Cinetel data, commented by the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni, seem to reverse the trend of the three-year period 2017-2019: “In the first six months of 2023 admissions were 31 million and 600 thousand (+56.4% on the first six months of 2022). And in terms of the number of admissions, we are 16 weeks ahead of 2022: achieved already in the penultimate week of June what had been achieved from January to the beginning of October 2022.”

Borgonzoni also emphasises the community value, as well as the economic value, of the cinema and adds: “We will continue to work for the full restart of cinemas in the conviction that they are fundamental places from a social and cultural point of view for the life of a community, as well as strategic for the maintenance and development of the entire film industry in our country”.
