Young people are returning to the cinema and consistently influencing the success of films in theaters. This is the case of Paolo Sorrentino’s Parthenope, which, aiming precisely at the young audience, grossed over 7 million euros, 41% of which came precisely from the under-34s. The same goes for Berlinguer – The Great Ambition by Andrea Segre, which benefited from the attention and attendance of a young audience. Young audiences that influenced the box office by about 20 percent.
The game-changing figure is not only about the increase in attendance, but also about what the younger generation goes to the cinema to see. If before the young/adult audience preferred to go to see more commercial and international films, now, the focus is also shifting to art films.
Already last year, with the survey “Italians and the cinema,” carried out by SWG for the General Directorate of Cinema and Audiovisual of the MiC, it was concluded that more and more young people and families with children under 10 were frequenting movie theaters. A very important change that, as of today, widens its scope and also moves to more complex shores such as art films.
