Seven the new MEDIA calls for proposals presented by Creative Europe.

 

Preparatory Action “Writing European”

It’s the second call of the Preparatory Action “Writing European”, created to nurture a community of young European talents, showrunners, screenwriters, authors and producers, able to strengthen the creative capacity of the European audiovisual industry, through the facilitation of creative hubs such as writing rooms or other collaborative settings.

Deadline: November 8, 2022.

 

European Slate Development

It is designed for the implementation of a small catalogue of projects, consisting of, at most, 3-5 works of fiction, animation and documentaries, with the chance of adding a short film (max. 20 mins), intended for the international and European markets.

The call is aimed at independent European production companies able to provide proof of two previous eligible works (produced between 2016 and the date of the application to the call) distributed or broadcast internationally in at least three countries, other than that of the applicant.

Deadline: January 25, 2023.

 

TV and Online Content

Addressed to independent European production companies with the intention of supporting the television distribution, in at least 2 broadcasters from 2 countries participating in MEDIA, of new works, either fiction, documentaries or animated movies.

The budget for this call consists of €22 million, while the deadlines in this case are two, January 17 and May 16, 2023.

 

Audience Development and Film Education

Dedicated to co-financing projects that could both, on one side, guarantee European cooperation and, on the other side, provide innovative ideas, which, through the implementation of new digital tools, could increase audience interest and knowledge of European audiovisual works, enhance European impact and, finally, improve the contribution that European audiovisual works make towards the general public cinema education and film literacy.

Priority will be given to projects realized in compliance with sustainability criteria as well as for the projects which try to ensure gender equality, inclusion, diversity and representation.

Deadline: March 30, 2023.

 

Films on the Move

Aimed at groups of 7 distributors minimum from different countries, of which a least 2 must be from lower audiovisual capacity countries, coordinated by film sales agents, that propose the distribution of one or more recent European, non-national films.

All works of fiction, animation and documentaries (minimum duration of 60 minutes), whose first copyright was established in 2021 at the earliest, majority-produced by one or more producers established in the countries participating in the MEDIA strand and realized, mostly, by professionals who are from countries participating in the MEDIA strand, will be taken into consideration.

The call has a budget of €16 million and two deadlines: March 14 and July 4, 2023.

 

Innovative tools and business models

Intended to foster the development and spread of innovative tools and business models to increase and improve the visibility, availability and diversity of European works as well as their competitiveness on the European audiovisual market.

The maximum duration is 36 months while the budget amounts to €8,883,198.

Deadline: January 24, 2023.

 

Video Games and Immersive Content Development

Created to help European video games, XR and audiovisual producers develop video games and interactive immersive experiences with the potential to reach international audiences.

In addition, the project aims at improving the competitiveness of these products in European and international markets by enabling the retention of intellectual property by European developers.

The budget consists of €6 million and the deadline is March 1, 2023.
