The fourth edition of the report “The Audiovisual System: Evolution and Economic Dimensions”, curated by eMedia and Istituto Bruno Leoni, has been presented. The study estimates that the national audiovisual sector reached a value of €14.9 billion in 2023, marking a 3.9% increase compared to the previous year.

According to Emilio Pucci (eMedia), the audiovisual industry is part of a broader sector—communication and entertainment—worth €53 billion, accounting for 2.5% of Italy’s GDP. The rise of digital platforms, driven by artificial intelligence and immersive content, is reshaping the market. However, challenges remain, including lower public investments compared to other European countries and a limited household propensity to spend on cultural products.

The report outlines four key trends for the future: the gradual merging of linear and non-linear content offerings, increasing competition from global platforms, the transfer of talents and formats between video-sharing platforms and television, and a greater focus on short-form content by broadcasters.

The presentation was followed by a debate with government and industry representatives on crucial topics such as regulation, innovation, and digital taxation. In closing, Federico Mollicone (VII Culture Commission) highlighted the strong growth of Italy’s audiovisual sector and the strategic role of tax credits in making the country increasingly attractive to international productions.
