The Lazio Region issued two new public calls to support creativity and the audio-visual sector, as well as for facilitating restructuring and securing cinemas and theatres. Details have been outlined by President of the Region Nicola Zingaretti, together with Councillor for Economic Development and Productive Activities Guido Fabiani and Councillor for Infrastructure Fabio Refrigeri. Resources amount to 9.3 million euros and this shows the commitment and the “huge cultural challenge of Lazio” – as President Zingaretti stated – “to allow cinemas, especially the small-town ones, to carry out modernisation works and emergency exits and to legalise the structures: these projects will save many cinemas threatened with closure”. By means of the Law on the urban regeneration for cinemas, a million euros had already been allocated, and about cinemas threatened with closure Zingaretti recalled that “there are many cases, such as Cinema America, which is the most sensational among those that don’t make it and therefore seek a use change. We want to avoid this risk, to allow cinemas to enrich their own offer in addition to other activities in transposing the Franceschini Law. This is a sign of great hope”.
