Fremantle has announced the start of filming for the movie Without Blood directed by Angelina Jolie. Filming, which began in early June, will take place in Puglia, Basilicata and Rome. The film, written, directed and produced by Angelina Jolie, is based on Alessandro Baricco’s international bestseller Without Blood. A fable a tale of hatred, revenge and remorse, set in the aftermath of a generic conflict, it explores universal truths about war, trauma, memory and healing.

The leads are played by Oscar-nominated actors Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir, joined by a production team and a stellar cast of international caliber. The film is produced by Fremantle (Andrea Scrosati), Jolie Productions (Angelina Jolie), The Apartment Pictures (Lorenzo Mieli), a Fremantle Group company, and De Maio Entertainment (Lorenzo De Maio). The film will be distributed worldwide by Fremantle.

Angelina Jolie speaking about her new effort behind the camera said:

I am honored to be in Italy and to bring such a special story to the big screen. I would like to thank Alessandro Baricco for entrusting me with the film adaptation of his book, a work rich in poetry and emotion, which looks at war and the questions that arise from it from a unique point of view, asking what we go looking for after suffering trauma, loss or injustice.

Without Blood is the first project under the three-year agreement between the actress and director and Fremantle. The collaboration involves the joint development of films, documentaries and original series. Jennifer Mullin, Global CEO of Fremantle said:

We are thrilled to be working with her and the amazing international team she has assembled. This project underscores Fremantle’s continued commitment to producing quality original films and TV series, working side-by-side with top talent from around the world.
