Ventotene Film Festival, conceived and directed by Loredana Commonara, returns from 26 July to 1 August 2024.
An appointment that has been renewed for 29 years, bringing cinema to the island together with many national and international guests. This edition will see the participation of Radu Mihaileanu, Paolo Virzì, Neri Marcorè, Laura Morante, Anna Ferraioli Ravel, Vinicio Marchioni, Andrea Occhipinti, Ludovica Rampoldi, Ambra Angiolini, Anna Pavignano, Simone Gattoni, Seydou Sarr, Moustapha Fall, Mamadou Kouassi, Massimo Gaudioso, Amath Diallo, Chiara Sbarigia, and Lorenza Lei, to name but a few.
The “ecological” vocation of Ventotene and nearby Santo Stefano, both protected since 1997 as marine reserves, is the main premise for the international “Green Path” competition for films and documentaries dedicated to ecology, the preservation of the ecosystem and the planet, with a view to promoting a more environmentally aware lifestyle.
The festival also enhances the history of the island, home of the birth of the European Union, with the Vento D’ Europa – Wind of Europe International Award, with a palmares full of prestigious names such as Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino and directors Marco Bellocchio, Wim Wenders, Matteo Garrone, Terry Gilliam, as well as actors, writers and screenwriters. The award will be presented on 27 July as part of the panel coordinated by journalist and film critic Federico Pontiggia: “Expression of Interest: From National Close-Ups to the European Long Range, the Union Makes Strength”. Speakers will include director Radu Mihaileanu, Cinecittà SPA and APA President Chiara Sbarigia, Lucky Red producer Andrea Occhipinti, actress Ambra Angiolini, Stefano Albertini professor at New York University, screenwriter Ludovica Rampoldi, and Kavac Film producer Simone Gattoni.
