The complete line-up of the 74th edition of the Venice International Film Festival has been announced. There are many Italian works among the films in the official competition and in the other sections; some films were present at the previous editions of MIA, such as the documentary Happy Winter by Giovanni Totaro, winner of a prize by MiSE (Ministry of Economic Development) for the development of a documentary project presented at MIA|IDS (Italian Doc Screenings).
Four Italian films in the main competition: Ammore e Malavita by Manetti Bros. (Madeleine, Manetti Bros. Film, Rai Cinema, with the contribution of MiBACT, in association withTamTam, with the support of Film Commission Regione Campania), present at What’sNextItaly 2016; Hannah by Andrea Pallaoro (Partner Media Investment, Rai Cinema, To be Continued, Lorand Entertainment, with the contribution of MiBACT, with the support ofFondo Lazio Cinema International, Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Eurimages, Creative Europe Media Development); Una Famiglia by Sebastiano Riso (Indiana Production, BacFilms, Rai Cinema); The Leisure Seeker by Paolo Virzì (Indiana Production, Rai Cinema, with the contribution ofMiBACT, in association with 3 Marys Entertainment).
Three Italian films in the Out of Competition section: Il Signor Rotpeter by Antonella De Lillo (Marechiaro Film); Diva! by Francesco Patierno(Casta Diva Pictures, D.O. Consulting & Production); Il Colore Nascosto delle Cose by Silvio Soldini (Lumière & Co., Ventura Film, Rai Cinema, with the contribution of MiBACT, RSI Radiotelevisione svizzera / SRG SSR, in association with Crédit Agricole Via, with the support of Lazio Region, Repubblica e Canton Ticino).
In the Orizzonti section, besides Nico, 1988 by Susanna Nicchiarelli opening the competition, Brutti e Cattivi by Cosimo Gomez (What’sNextItaly 2016).
The Cinema nel Giardino sectionismostlyItalian: the contendingfilms are Manuel by Dario Albertini (BiBi Film Tv), Controfigura by Rä di Martino (Dugong Films, In Between Art Film, Snaporazverein, Produzioni Illuminati) and Nato a Casal di Principe by Bruno Oliviero (Cinemusa, Rai Cinema). Suburra – La Serie, available on Netflix this fall, is planned to be screened.
Thespecial documentary screenings contain only three Italian works: La Lunga Strada del Ritornoby Alessandro Blasetti; Barbiana ’65 La Lezione di Don Milani by Alessandro G.A. D’Alessandro; Lievito Madre – Le Ragazze del Secolo Scorso by Concita de Gregorio and Esmeralda Calabria.
