President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani announced the three films in contention for the 11th edition of the LUX FILM PRIZE.
The first film is BPM (Beats per Minute) by Robin Campillo telling the story of a group of Act Up – Paris activists fighting to make AIDS more visible in France in 1992.
The second film is the debut film of Swedish director Amanda Kernell, Sámi Blood, set in the ‘30s of the twentieth century. The film tells the story of a young Lapp girl who dreams of a different life and leaves her native community to try to be part of the Scandinavian society, but where she will be victim of racism and misunderstanding.
Western by Valeska Griesbach is the third film telling the story of some German workers in a hydroelectric power station in Bulgaria. The German director uses the classic western scheme to talk about economic immigration andintegration.
The winner will be announced at the seat of the European Parliament in Strasburg on November 15 and the winning film will be subtitled in the 24 official EU languages.
