The iconic “booth” featured in the final scene, filmed at Holsten’s restaurant in New Jersey, of the series The Sopranos has been sold at auction for $82,600.

In a post on Facebook, the restaurant stated, “Please understand that we did not intend to do this. But the integrity of the booths is compromised. They have been repaired many times and this furniture is over 60 years old. Of course we didn’t want to do that, however, we have reached a point where structurally they are no longer safe as a whole and we have to think about the safety of our customers first.”

The series, which aired from 1999 to 2007 and was described by The New York Times as “the most important pop culture work of the last quarter century,” has inevitably left its mark on many people’s imaginations, so much so that the auction, though it started with a minimum price of $3,000 reached and exceeded $80,000.

Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) is sitting on that very “booth” with his family when the last images of the show were running on the screens of all TVs, the screen went black leaving fans in despair. The restaurant, in fact, became a place of pilgrimage for devoted fans of Sopranos and Gandolfini, especially after his sudden death seven years after the series ended.
