The panel The Alliance within the eighth edition of MIA – Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo ended today at the Nuovo Cinema Barberini.

The event focused on the European Public Broadcaster Alliance, the collaboration between some of Europe’s largest public service companies: RAI, ZDF and France Télévisions. After an introduction by Gaia Tridente, MIA Director, the speakers discussed the work done so far, the future projects they aim to develop, and discussed with the audience the current situation of the sector and its evolution.

In particular, Simone Emmelius, SVP International Fiction-Coproduction & Acquisition ZDF, dwelt on the importance of this collaboration: ‘”The idea was to bring together three major broadcasters and create products for our audience that we would not have been able to produce alone. Even though we come from different countries, we have a common heritage that needs to be told. The stories come from distant places and are told in different languages, but they are interconnected”.

Among the speeches was also that of Francesco Nardella, Deputy Director Drama of Rai, who emphasised how The Alliance has fortified and sensitised all its parts: “This experience is completely different from those I have lived throughout my career. We worked together and learnt to understand the points of contact between us.”

Manuel Alduy, Director of Cinema and International Development France Télévisions, recognised how The Alliance allows projects to be developed even if they are still in an embryonic state, and also its ability to attract co-productions: “A year ago I met Femke Wolting here at MIA and now France Télévisions and Submarine Entertainment are developing a project together. We are inventing a new way of creating a series for The Alliance’.
