Announced a new measure to support cinemas. The Italian Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, allocates €25 million from the emergency fund for entertainment, cinema and audiovisual.

As reported in the press release of the Italian Ministry of Culture, contributions can be accessed by cinema owners who meet the following requirements:

  • have registered offices in Italy;
  • have kept the cinema open to the public for at least 25% of the days between November 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022;
  • be in order with the payment of social security contributions.

The resources are distributed among the beneficiaries in proportion to the loss of income from ticket sales in the period from November 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022 compared to the period from November 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020. In the event that the movie theater had no receipts from ticket sales in the period from December 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020, the benchmark is the average of the lost receipts of movie theaters with the same number of screens.

A special notice containing the procedures and deadlines for the submission of applications for subsidies will be published on the website of the Italian Ministry of Culture’s Direzione Generale Cinema.
