The acquisition of U.K. distribution company Abacus Media Rights by Canadian group Sphere Media for C$24.6 million has been completed.
The U.K. company, which will be named Sphere Abacus, will become the distribution arm of Sphere Media, continuing, as stated by the company, “to invest in, presell and sell scripted and unscripted productions from independent producers around the world to its broad customer base.”
Also unchanged will be the U.K. operations office still led by Jonathan Ford, who commented, “ Our two companies are particularly complementary and we look forward to working closely with Sphere’s brilliant producers, enabling their programming to be even more successful globally.”
Bruno Dubé, leading Sphere Media, added, “This significant development for our company means that our global capabilities have expanded further and deeper. Together with Sphere Abacus we have become an exceptionally effective force in the global content market.”
The British company, which prior to the acquisition was owned by Amcomri Entertainmen, represents Sphere Media’s first major distribution operation under Bruno Dubé.
