Roberto Genovesi

Director

Rai Kids

Roberto Genovesi is the Director of Rai Kids, a position he assumed in April 2025. In this role, he oversees Rai’s children’s and family programming, guiding the division toward a new generational brand identity that expands its focus to adolescents and strengthens its presence across platforms. Before this appointment, from 2023 to 2025 he served as Director of Rai Libri, the publishing arm of Italy’s public broadcaster, where he steered editorial strategy and reinforced Rai’s position in the publishing market. He also serves as the long-standing Artistic Director of Cartoons on the Bay, the international festival dedicated to animation, transmedia, and meta-arts, and of ADE Apulia Digital Experience.

Alongside his executive responsibilities, Genovesi is also a screenwriter, graphic novel author, and accomplished novelist of historical and fantasy fiction. His works include the Legione Occulta saga and the Legione Maledetta trilogy, as well as acclaimed titles such as Il templare nero, Il leone di Svevia, and Il ragazzo che liberò Auschwitz. His novels, often blending history with imaginative storytelling, have reached both national and international audiences.
Parallel to his literary and executive leadership, Genovesi is active in academia. He teaches theory and technique of cross-media languages at several universities and is recognized as the first Italian academic to hold a university chair dedicated to video games, underlining his pioneering contribution to new media studies.

His professional path began in journalism, where he collaborated with leading outlets such as L’Espresso, Panorama, La Repubblica, TV Sorrisi e Canzoni, and Osservatore Romano. Prior to that, he spent fifteen years at the ASCA press agency, where he rose to head the economic, social, and multimedia desks. He later took on institutional roles, serving as head of press at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and as advisor to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Communications on childhood policies, also contributing to the Media and Minors Commission.

Across broadcasting, publishing, academia, journalism, and literature, Genovesi has built a multifaceted career. His leadership continues to shape Italy’s media landscape, particularly in children’s and educational content, where his expertise in cross-media storytelling plays a central role.
