Anastasia Plazzotta is the founder and CEO of Wanted Cinema, an independent Italian distribution company established in 2014 and dedicated to bringing outstanding international auteur, documentary, and European cinema to Italian audiences.
She graduated in Eurasian Languages and Literatures from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, completed the Eurodoc Master’s Programme in Documentary Production, and earned a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from the Scuola Holden in Turin.
After an experience with the Lux Vide team on a documentary series for RAI, she joined Fandango Libri before moving to Fandango Doc, where she worked on the production of documentaries including Latina/Littoria by Gianfranco Pannone and Chiusura by Alessandro Rossetto. She later joined Feltrinelli Editore as an editor and became Head of the Video Department, overseeing the acclaimed Feltrinelli Real Cinema collection and bringing many of the world’s most celebrated documentaries, presented at leading international festivals, to Italian audiences.
In 2014, she founded Wanted Cinema, which has become one of Italy’s leading independent distributors of auteur and documentary cinema. The company has released numerous award-winning films, including Academy Award winners and nominees. Among the Oscar-winning documentaries distributed by Wanted Cinema are Man on Wire, The Cove, and No Other Land. In recent years, Wanted Cinema has also expanded into documentary production and co-production, supporting projects such as Going Underground, Mauro Corona – La mia vita finché capita and Willie Peyote – Elegia Sabauda, as well as launching Wanted Clan, a cinema and cultural venue in Milan.
Anastasia Plazzotta serves on the Board of Europa Distribution and is a member of the European Film Academy. Throughout her career, she has been particularly committed to promoting women filmmakers and emerging talent. Wanted Cinema has introduced Italian audiences to the early works of directors such as Carla Simón, Chloé Zhao, and Kaouther Ben Hania, reflecting the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting distinctive voices whose work has gone on to achieve international recognition.
