After the deals with the Coen brothers for a TV series and with David Letterman for a show, Netflix pulls off another big shot. It’s about the 47-year-old screenwriter and producer Shonda Rhimes, creator of successes such as Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder, who leaves ABC after fifteen years for the streaming giant. The agreement is a clear sign of the fight between the entertainment giants to win the best talents in the business, and Shonda Rhimes guarantees an ongoing relationship sinceshe will be responsible for developing new plots and shows. Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos offered Shonda limitless possibilities and an unconstrained creative freedom, besides a supposedly frightening figure, considering also that this is an exclusive multi-year deal and Shonda, according to The Wall Street Journal, brought 2 billion dollars (among commercials and international licences) into ABC’s coffers.
