Manipulation of information even in British documentaries. The shocking case of the Human Planet series, realized by BBC.
The BBC after 7 years confesses: some of the most important scenes in the doc Human Planet series have been manipulated. The documentaries aired in 2011 were produced by the BBC together with Discovery. Eight episodes that have met the favor of the critics with 7 nominations to the Bafta, the Oscars of English TV. The episode dedicated to the Korowai tribe of Papua New Guinea is that indicated.
Just to show the lifestyle of the tribe, the production would have asked the Korowai to build a house in an inaccessible place to reach and then film the images intended for the documentary. The truth of the matter has only come to the surface after the recording of some docs by the production company My Year With The Tribe. The same Korowai protagonists who on this occasion confirmed that they have houses on the trees, but not at heights so exaggerated – as shown instead in the BBC’s doc.
Only 10 meters high. This would be the maximum distance from the ground to allow the inhabitants to get water and other necessities. A blunder for the renowned BBC that this time showed little attention, not only for having conveyed a real fake news, but even more so because it was also the cause. The BBC, however, had already announced that it did not want to take action against the troupe, probably because the practice would be revived in other more recent documentaries, but this time with the words to warn the viewer.
