Another Italian triumph at Cannes 2018 with Stefano Savona, awarded for Samouni Road with the Best Documentary prize “L’Oeil d’or”.

This has been a successful edition for Italian cinema in Cannes. Alongside the triumph of Lazzaro Felice with Alice Rohrwacher and Marcello Fonte for Garrone’s Dogman, also Stefano Savona has added “L’Oeil d’or” Award for Best Documentary to the list with Samouni Road premiered in the Quinzaine Des Réalisateurs sidebar of the festival.

The documentary offers the story of a rural celebration in the outskirts of Gaza City through the eyes of Amal, who finds a moment to heal and move forward after losing some relatives in the war. The film, with the superb scratchboard animation overseen by Simone Massi, has received the support of Cineteca di Bologna, which will release it in Italian theaters next season. Produced by Picofilms, Dugong Films with Rai Cinema, and Alter Ego Production, Samouni Road was realized in co-production with ARTE France Cinéma and ARTE France Unité Société et Culture.
