Since July, the world of film productions and streaming content has been severely slowed by the strike by the union representing Hollywood actors and actresses (SAG-AFTRA – Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists).

After 118 days, the parties may have reached a possible agreement on the most sensitive issues: the demand for higher compensation for the category and greater protection toward the use of new technologies.

The draft agreement, the details of which are not yet known, will raise the minimum wage to a 7 percent increase, which is two points higher than the increases negotiated by the screenwriters’ union (Wga-Writers Guild of America), and the directors’ organization (Director’s Guild) that started and ended the strike first. Copyright calculations for shows streamed online also improve, and contributions to health and pension plans are strengthened.
Another novelty, is the protection of actors against unauthorized image use by artificial intelligence.

The tentative agreement will be presented to the SAG-AFTRA National Council on Friday, November 10, 2023 for review and approval by the union’s representatives and members. Further details will be announced after the meeting.
