During MIA 2024, the Piemonte Development Pitch will present six projects currently under development, all of which have benefited from the Piemonte Film TV Development Fund. The fund, created by the Film Commission Torino Piemonte, provides support to independent production companies by helping them develop projects with international potential and fostering global co-productions. These selected products reflect a new generation of cinema, telling local stories with a global outlook.
The six selected feature films include BEYOND THE DESERT by Andrea Parena (Redibis Film) which follows Lucio on an unexpected journey that leads him to the Moroccan desert, where he embarks on a personal quest for freedom; DISORDER by Giacomo Abruzzese (Dugong), the story of Ana and Marko, who flee Albania in 1991 following the collapse of the communist regime, ultimately finding refuge in Italy during Milan’s boom of private television. Also included are IDDA’S BREATH by Irene Dionisio (Kino Produzioni), about two friends in their thirties who reunite after years apart to fulfill their childhood dream of climbing Mount Etna. During the hike, tensions surface, reopening old wounds and revealing new secrets.
INCOMPARABLE by Stefano Croci (Cinefonie) which explores the complex relationship between an elderly diamond smuggler and his adopted Senegalese daughter. As they pursue the acquisition of a rare diamond, they face numerous obstacles in their journey to become a family; and DIRTY/SPORCO by Giada Bossi (Elsinore Film) which delves into the complexities of a mother-daughter relationship that is tested when they are forced to work together in an isolated setting.The dynamics of their relationship are further strained by the emergence of an unexpected rivalry, which ultimately leads to dramatic consequences.
Lastly, TINA by Simone Catania (Indyca), inspired by a true story, follows a Romanian woman who migrates to Sicily and challenges the injustices perpetrated by her husband and the landowner. She fights for not only her own rights but also for the rights of other women who have been exploited.
