Piedmont takes center stage in Venice: 9 titles and a new call for applications

The Piedmont Region reaches an all-time high with nine works presented across the different sections of the Venice International Film Festival.

This extraordinary result has been made possible by a winning combination of factors. Numerous short films shot directly in the region with local crews have been joined by major feature films supported by the regional Piemonte Film TV Fund and by the logistical and production support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte.

Piedmont’s presence at the Venice Biennale includes, in the Official Selection, Marco Bechis’s “Ritorno a Buenos Aires” and Nanni Moretti’s “Succederà questa notte.” The Orizzonti section features Alina Marazzi’s “La ragazza con la Leica” — the opening film — and Tommaso Landucci’s debut “I figli della scimmia.” They are joined, in the Out of Competition section, by the short film “Il Senso della Terra” by Alessandro Ingaria and Simone Massi.

There are also new opportunities for the local audiovisual sector through the Premio Match Piemonte. The winning novel, “La finestra del terzo piano” by Paola Darò — published by Piemme — has won a 60.000 euros grant to produce a pilot episode for a short film to be shot in Piedmont within eight months, with applications open until September 15.

This is a golden moment for Piedmont’s audiovisual sector, demonstrating its ability to combine the prestige of major international festivals with concrete, ongoing support for productions throughout the region.
