Dutch company MFE – MediaForEurope, whose controlling shareholder is the Italian company Fininvest, has acquired control of ProSiebenSat.1 Media, in which the Berlusconi family’s TV holding company was already the largest shareholder.

ProSiebenSat.1 is Europe’s second-largest TV radio group, owning 15 free and pay TV stations, as well as the streaming media products platform Joyn.

Yesterday, the European Commission approved the deal, which mainly involves the media and broadcasting sectors, as well as the offline and online advertising markets, and stressed that the acquisition complies with the EU Merger Regulation, considering that the market positions of both companies, individually or combined, do not constitute competition that would create problems within the Community.
