17 films have been selected for the 70th edition of the Locarno Festival which will take place from 2 to 12 August. Among the works entering the international competition, there’s an Italian filmmaker too, Germano Maccioni with Gli Asteroidi. Furthermore, two films which were selected for the New Cinema Network in 2014 are present in the competition: 9 Doigts by F. J. Ossang and Charleston by Andreï Cretulescu.
There are other Italian participants in the different sections of the festival: Amori che non sanno stare al mondo by Francesca Comencini (What’s Next Italy 2016) is in Piazza Grande, while Due Soldati by Marco Tullio Giordana will be screened in the Prefestival section. The Piazza Grande programme also includes Sicilia! by Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, a co-production between Italy, France and Germany; Easy by Andrea Magnani and Il Monte delle Formiche by Riccardo Palladino will be part of the Cineasti del Presente section.
Finally, Ibi by Andrea Segre has been selected for the Fuori Concorso section, and Fine di un Amore by Alberto Tamburelli for the Pardi di Domani section.
