Japan launches a new series of aids for audiovisual productions in the country: guaranteed reimbursements of up to 50% of the costs incurred.

This is the new initiative launched by METI, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and two of the main audiovisual agencies of the Land of the Rising Sun: Visual Industry Promotion Organisation, founded in 2005 with the aim of supporting the Japanese creative industry, and Japan Film Commission, which groups more than 120 regional commissions.

Eligible for reimbursement are international film and television projects that guarantee spending $3.2 million on Japanese territory. This figure is lowered to $1.1 if the project for which funding is requested is distributed in 10 or more countries. In both cases, the maximum reimbursable amount is $6.4 million.

Projects for which incentives are requested must also ensure the promotion of the area and the use of Japanese labour and resources.
