In the week of August 24 to 30, 2026, Italian cinemas grossed roughly €11.59 million from more than 1.47 million admissions, a strong weekday pace that shows just how exceptional this summer season has been for Italian theaters. Leading the pack once again is Moana, Disney’s live-action remake starring Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia. Directed by Thomas Kail and produced by Johnson alongside Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the film added about €3.47 million and more than 457,000 admissions over the seven days. Since opening on August 19, it has reached a total of €8.56 million and over 1.1 million admissions in two weeks, closing in fast on the symbolic €10 million mark.
Right behind it, The Odyssey keeps showing remarkable staying power. Written, directed and co-produced by Christopher Nolan with his wife Emma Thomas through their banner Syncopy, and distributed by Universal Pictures, the epic added another €2.31 million and roughly 265,000 admissions this week, bringing its total since its mid-July debut to €54.43 million and nearly 6.48 million admissions. Rounding out the podium is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal for Marvel Studios and Pascal Pictures (distributed in Italy by Eagle Pictures). The Tom Holland-led superhero film earned about €1.76 million and more than 223,000 admissions this week, pushing its total since its July 29 release to €36.75 million and 4.56 million admissions.
The real surprise of the week came from a title with box-office history already behind it: the theatrical re-release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The 2001 film, directed by Chris Columbus and produced by David Heyman for Warner Bros., returned to Italian cinemas on August 26 to mark its 25th anniversary, opening with more than €1 million in its first five days — a result well beyond expectations for a re-release.
Taken together, the numbers point to a record-breaking August for Italian cinema, fueled by the staying power of Odyssey and Spider-Man and now further boosted by Moana’s arrival. With the month not yet over, takings already exceed €68 million, up more than 200% compared to the same period in 2025.
