The panel In Conversation with Jake Morrison, VFX Supervisor took place today 11 October 2023 during the third day of MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo.

During the event, which took place at the MIA XR Tech Pavilion set up in the halls of Palazzo Barberini, Jake Morrison, BAFTA nominee and VFX Supervisor for many productions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Iron Man 2, Thor, The Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok) analysed the projects he has worked on with the moderation of Francesco Grisi, CEO & Founder, EDI – Effetti Digitali Italiani. The discussion was then extended to the future of high-budget VFX, straddling artificial intelligence and real-life fidelity.

Jake Morrison talked about his own experience in the industry, dwelling on his work with Marvel: “The technology we used with Marvel let us to work mostly in post production. Through this, shots can be made at any specific moment and then  relight everything in post. You can also generate the whole enviroment later.”

Regarding the future of VFX, Jake Morrison focused on the spread of new VFX technologies that will affect new generations: “For future generations of artists I want to make these tools available so that things can be easier and better. My goal is to bring a more practical approach in the game, using the blue screen less and less and only for deteails”.
