Twenty-five years after his first nomination for Born on the Fourth of July , Tom Cruise will receive an honorary Academy Award.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that the award will be presented at the Governors Awards in November 2025. It is the first Oscar for the Top Gun star, who has already been nominated four times for the coveted award. Also honored along with him will be choreographer and actress Debbie Allen, whose career spans such big hits as They’re Gonna Be Famous and Grey’s Anatomy, and set designer Wynn Thomas, known for curating the settings for Malcolm X, Inside Man and A Beautiful Mind.
Instead, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, which is given to artistic personalities who stand out for their philanthropic efforts, will go to music icon Dolly Parton.
