Director Greta Gerwig will be the new jury president for the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which will take place May 14-25, 2024.

Gerwig, on the heels of the success of her latest film, Barbie, will take over director Ruben Ostlund’s post, becoming, in fact, the first American director to chair the prestigious jury. In addition, Gerwing, will also be the youngest to hold the role since Sophia Loren in 1966.

Greta Gerwig, who is currently working on a new film adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix, has directed such blockbuster films as Little Women and Lady Bird, acting, in addition, in many films including Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, Mike Mills’ The Women in My Life and Noah Baumbach’s Whit Noise.
