US fast food chain Chick-fil-A, which specialises in serving chicken food, is in talks with production companies and Hollywood studios to create original family-friendly and mostly unscripted shows. The company is looking to enter the reality sector, which has shrunk in recent years, with a budget of about $400,000 per half-hour, but according to a source is also considering scripted and animated projects.
The chicken company is no stranger to this kind of operation, previously producing a series of animated shorts for its website, ‘Stories of Evergreen Hills’, which reached 200 million views with episode 3, and launching its Pennycake brand of games and puzzles for children.
To be fair, the temptation for non-entertainment companies to try their hand at streaming is not new either: Lyft and Airbnb had already experimented with this avenue with the game show ‘Lucky Lyft’ for the rideshare service produced by the well-known transport company, while the documentary ‘Gay Chorus Deep South’ broadcast by MTV was developed and produced by Airbnb.
Brian Gibson, alumnus of ‘Top Gear’ and ‘The X Factor’, is leading the programming.
