The French government is studying a measure that would oblige SVoD platforms to invest 20-25% of their turnover in local productions.

This was announced by Roselyn Bachelot, Minister of Culture, during an interview. The regulation should be contained in a new law about audiovisual content.

In return for their investment, SVoD platforms should be guaranteed a shortening of the usual 36 months time that has to pass between the release of a film in cinemas and its upload in streaming.

The aim of this law would be to create equity between the ever-growing streaming giants and traditional channels.
