Synopsis

Idrusa, the unhappy wife of the fisherman Antonio, falls in love with the Spanish soldier Manuel. During the great fishing night, while Idrusa abandons herself to Manuel, Antonio defies the storm to return home and loses his life at sea. The enemy fleet is at the door. Manuel and his Spanish compatriots flee. The inhabitants of Otranto choose to resist. The men defend the walls of the city and the women take shelter in the cathedral, but Idrusa breaks curfew and heads to the other side of the city, connecting the two fronts. As all hope of rescue vanishes, Idrusa leads the women who are preparing to fight. The film is dedicated to them, to the forgotten women.
