The fifth edition of C EU SOON, the MIA film section event dedicated to European first and second works that are in post-production, took place today 13th October 2022.

This year’s selection committee, consisting of Sarah Chazelle, Cate Kane and Matthew Takata, selected the 6 films that were presented to international buyers during the third day of MIA 2022.

  • MATRIA by Alvaro Gago studies the life of a young working mother as her daughter is ready to leave the nest;
  • ONCE WE WERE PITMEN, a documentary by Christian Johannes Koch and Jonas Matauschek about the lives of five German coal miners after they experienced mine closures due to climate change in 2018;
  • ON THE WAY TO WAR by Viorica Tataru, a documentary about the stark reality of the war in Ukraine and how it has come to crucially moficate even interpersonal relationships;
  • A SAD AND VULGAR LONER, by Efthymia Zymvagaki, a documentary focusing on violence, but with the peculiarity of giving voice not to a victim but to a perpetrator;
  • CLARA by Sabin Dorohoi, a feature film about the difficulties of a divorced mother who works in Germany while helping her son in Romania;
  • FIELD by Lasha Tskvitinidze, a film focusing on the vicissitudes of a young couple in Georgia.

The event was presented by Gabriele Niola, who introduced the projects to the public and potential buyers and explaind how the submitted films participate in the Screen International Buyers’ Choice Award.
The award, voted by distributors, sales agents and buyers present on site and connected to the MIA Digital platform,will be awarded this Saturday 15th October  2022 at the MIA Awards Ceremony.
