The festival will open with the out-of-competition film Das Licht (The Light), directed by German filmmaker Tom Tykwer. During the opening ceremony at the Berlinale Palast, the iconic Tilda Swinton will be honored with the Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement.
The competition lineup includes films from 26 countries, featuring works by renowned directors and emerging talents. Todd Haynes will preside over the International Jury, tasked with awarding the Golden Bear.
Italy is represented as a co-producer for two titles: Reflet dans un diamant mort, directed by Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani, and Yunan by Ameer Fakher Eldin. Additionally, Canone effimero by the De Serio brothers is featured in the Forum section, while Come la notte by Liryc Dela Cruz is part of the Perspectives program.
Among the most anticipated productions are Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon, starring Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley, and Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s debut feature Hot Milk, with Emma Mackey and Vicky Krieps. Mary Bronstein presents If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, featuring Rose Byrne and A$AP Rocky, while James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, centered on a young Bob Dylan played by Timothée Chalamet, will screen in the Berlinale Special section.
This year’s edition promises to explore cinema as an art form that reflects the complexities of contemporary life, continuing the political and cultural legacy of the festival.
