Sonia Rovai is the new vice president of original production at The Walt Disney Company Italy. Rovai will report to Angela Jain, head of content for Disney+ in the EMEA region, and will be responsible for coordinating the Italian team dedicated to creating local original content for the platform, spanning both scripted and unscripted programming. Her role will include overseeing production and managing business affairs.
Rovai brings more than 25 years of experience in the audiovisual industry. She joins Disney Italy after serving as CEO of Wildside starting in 2024. Before that, she led Sky Italia‘s original series department from 2016, a position she reached after steadily taking on roles of increasing responsibility within the company.
According to Jain, Rovai’s arrival comes at a strategic moment of growth for the group’s international original productions, with Italy seen as a key market for Disney+, a view reinforced by the green light given to the series “Delitto sul Lago di Garda” (working title). The focus is on local content that can bring an authentic cultural identity and strong ties to the region to the platform’s global offering, with Rovai’s experience seen as a valuable addition to the team.
