Book Adaptation Forum – Second Edition
MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo presents the second edition of the Book Adaptation Forum (BAF), an initiative designed to connect the publishing world with producers, literary agents, and audiovisual professionals, exploring and enhancing the adaptation market. BAF brings stories and literary works with high potential for film and TV adaptation to Rome, offering a key opportunity for international networking and collaboration.
For this second edition of the Book Adaptation Forum (BAF), an international jury composed of Raffaella De Angelis (Head of Literary Acquisitions, Global Scripted Hub – Fremantle), Fanny Fromental (Literary Adaptation Manager at STUDIOCANAL Stories), Viviana Vuscovich (Head of the Rights Office at Mauri Spagnol), and Alexandre Charlet (Producer – Swan & Les Films du Cygne and Co-founder of Le Studio Animation) has selected 8 national and international books to be presented to an audience of audiovisual professionals.
It kicks off with the provocative dystopia Transición. La experiencia u feeling by Jose Ángel Mañas and Eva G. Guerrero (ALT Autores), where a feminist organization takes over the bodies of the world’s most powerful people, before moving to historical crime with L’ora della nebbia. Un’avventura di Adelaide Ferraris ved. Wilson by Cristiana Astori (Giunti), led by a fearless psychiatrist in 1889 Turin.
The international outlook continues with Umthombo Magic 2: The curse of the Tokoloshe by Charles Siboto (Penguin Random House South Africa), a supernatural adventure steeped in African mythology that weaves together friendship, loyalty, and teamwork with a journey of self-discovery—an exploration of identity that bridges into the intense contemporary story of redemption and transition in Cigni selvaggi by Fumettibrutti (Feltrinelli).
The pace quickens with In sole 24 ore by Domenico Wanderlingh (Guanda), a financial thriller set among the secrets of the Milan Stock Exchange, and L’autore fantasma by Jacopo De Michelis (Giunti), a high-tension thriller exploring the dark underbelly of the publishing world.
Closing the selection are Le sorelle Rosewood. Zenzero e Cannella. Un amore imprevisto per Phoebe VOL. 1 by Ella Swann (Piemme), a delicate family coming-of-age story filled with love and secrets, and Cencio by Fabio Geda (Einaudi Stile Libero), a powerful generational portrait set in Florence during the 1966 flood.
By engaging producers from all over the world, MIA and the Book Adaptation Forum aim to boost the adaptation market, strengthening the bond between publishing and the audiovisual industry. BAF serves as a strategic platform for rights acquisition and the international promotion of stories, creating a direct bridge between creators and the industry for an innovative and sustainable development of global cultural content.
