Director Martin Scorsese and actor Michael Douglas are the international guests of the 71st Taormina Film Festival, which will take place from June 10 to 14, 2025, at the city’s majestic Greek theater. Artistic director Tiziana Rocca will honor the two international guests for their significant contributions to the art of cinema by screening a restored version of Taxi Driver, one of the director’s most famous films, courtesy of the Cineteca di Bologna.

This year, the festival celebrates female performers in all their facets, launching a special black and gold Intercity train that connects Rome to Sicily with a personalized train on the outside with the faces of famous women in cinema.

The program this year includes 10 films in the international competition, 13 titles out of competition, and 8 special events at the Teatro Antico. The festival will open with the film Ballerina, a spin-off of the John Wick series.

The festival jury will be presided over by Da’Vine Joy Randolph, an Oscar winner, and will include Sandy Powell, a three-time Oscar winner; Steven Gaydos, Variety’s vice president; and the Italian actresses Alessandra Mastronardi and Ilenia Pastorelli. The event’s madrina is actress Valeria Solarino.
