In 2024, Italy’s video game industry continues its upward trend, reaching a turnover of nearly €2.4 billion, a 3% increase compared to 2023. This is highlighted in the report “Video Games in Italy in 2024” by IIDEA, the trade association for the Italian video game industry, presented at the Ministry of Culture during the National Made in Italy Day, with the participation of Undersecretary Lucia Borgonzoni.
The number of companies in the sector has also grown (200, +25%), as have employees (2,800, +17%) and overall revenue (+36%). Gamers in Italy now total 14 million (+8%), with an average age of 31 and a significant rise in female players (+14%).
Smartphones and tablets are the most used devices (10.4 million users, +12%), followed by consoles (6.2 million, +11.5%) and PCs (4.8 million, +5%). Over the next two years, 80 new titles are expected to be released, 62 of which are original IPs. Most of the production is aimed at international markets, especially Europe (42%) and North America (37%).
During the event, IIDEA also launched gamesinItaly.it, a new portal featuring an interactive map of the Italian video game development landscape.
“The report presents the image of a healthy and expanding industry, as demonstrated by the growth on both the business and consumer sides. […] The Ministry of Culture highly values the development of Italy’s video game excellence and promotes policies to support and enhance it. Most recently, the €12 million tax credit for the sector has been confirmed again this year, as provided for in the 2025 cinema fund allocation decree,” said Undersecretary Lucia Borgonzoni.
