Southern Chronicles (Pietinia Kronikas) by Ignas Miškinis emerged as the big winner at this year’s Silver Crane Awards, Lithuania’s top film honors. The film, which was part of the C EU Soon showcase in 2023, claimed an impressive 12 awards out of 14 nominations — a remarkable feat that crowned it the standout title of the night.
Set in Lithuania during the transformative 1990s, Southern Chronicles follows Rimantas, a young rugby player navigating the turbulence of youth. As the country around him changes, so does his inner world: through unexpected turns, he discovers not only love but also a deep passion for literature, challenging the path laid out for him.
Miškinis was awarded Best Director, and the film took home the prize for Best Feature. The acting was equally celebrated: European Shooting Star Džiugas Grinys won Best Actor, with Irena Sikorskytė and Robertas Petraitis recognized for their standout supporting performances.
The film’s emotionally rich screenplay by Eglė Vertelytė was also honored, along with its distinctive production design, costumes, and sound work. To top it all off, Southern Chronicles received the Audience Award, confirming its popularity as the most-watched film of the year in Lithuania.
